It’s nearly always windy in the Netherlands. Most of the time, the wind is westerly. In February and March it often reaches gale force. A north-westerly storm can whip up the waters of the North Sea to dangerously high levels. Since the Delta Project was completed, the flood defences along the coast are strong enough to withstand attack.
